MEKONG DELTA with Bassac Cruise (2 days)
Overview Programme Inclusion Gallery Request
The Mekong Delta is a unique region where life on the water has remained unchanged for centuries. Life on the delta revolves around the Mekong River, with its green expanses of paddy fields, thick orchards, and canals. Mekong River Delta is often referred to as a major granary of Viet Nam where three rice harvests are produced per year. The fertile Mekong River Delta is also famous for its tropical fruits and flowers. The Delta area in the south of Viet Nam marks the end of a 4,500km journey made by the Mekong River after having traveled through six countries. Boating along a vast network of canals and channels is the traditional way of local people here.

TRAVEL NOTES
Best time to travel
The temperatures in southern Vietnam don’t change much throughout the year, the average is about 30 degrees celsius. The dry season in the Mekong delta is between October / November and April / May. But even the rainy season from May to October is no reason not to travel this region. Usually the rain showers are brief and heavy, mostly in the afternoons, but after an hour or so it clears up again. Life in Mekong Delta is woven by water and season. It is most vibrant in spring (flower season: late January - March) and early summer (fruit season: April - May), the best time to visit Mekong Delta, also the best time to visit Ho Chi Minh city and Vietnam in general. The flood season (September - November), however, sweeps everything away and brings a new face to the delta with its rich brown alluvial water. This is also the income season for local people with abundant fish and water vegetables. The waterfront life is most fascinating in this season.

Small luggage, better comfort.
Bassac boat has been designed to get through small canals of Mekong Delta. As a consequence, cabins on board are river boat cabins which are not the ones you experience on Royal Caribbean or Celebrity Millenium! So we strongly advise you to bring small luggage on board
