Want to avoid the tourist buses and masses who visit Angkor Wat every day? Then a cycling trip is the perfect way to see the Angkor Temples. This is a real treat for anyone who loves nature, religion and history mixed in with some active travel. Imagine cycling around temples that date back to 8th and 12th century, riding on flat pathways through lush countryside, visiting the popular sites as well as the more remote temples and camping for a night under the stars against a backdrop of an ancient temple complex. This excellent trip also includes a night in an active monastery Buddhist monks and a kayaking tour to discover life on Ton Le Sap lake

Schedule

DAY 1 : SIEM REAP ARRIVAL (-/-/D)
Arrive in Cambodia’s capital, Phnom Penh and meet our local team at the airport for your transfer to your hotel. NOTE : kindly note that should you arrive early, an early check-in is not included and subject to hotel’s availability. Your guide will brief an orientation of the city along the way. Once checked in we leave you at your leisure.

The rest of the day is free to explore Siem Reap, the gateway to the impressive Angkor Wat which is located 7km south of Siem Reap. With its many bars, cafés and restaurants, Siem Reap is a bustling town that relies on the tourism industry and has all the amenities you need when you travel. Meet your local guide for dinner at a local restaurant and a trip briefing

DAY 2 : CYCLE ANGKOR TEMPLE COMLPEX (B/L/-)
After breakfast you start exploring Angkor Wat by bike. Angkor Wat is one of the biggest religious monuments in the world and represents the Khmer heritage. Its stunning base relief, massive towers and huge entrance way will simply amaze you. You continue cycling to the former capital Angkor Thom, home to the Bayon and the Terrace of the Elephants and Ta Prohm, famous for its massive overgrown trees used in the movie classic, Raiders’ of the Lost Ark. After lunch in a local restaurant you cycle to Banteay Kdey and explore this massive complex before heading back to Siem Reap where you have a free night.

DAY 3 : SIEM REAP / BANTEAY SREI / SIEM REAP (B/L/-)
Today you cycle to Banteay Srey which probably is the best preserved temple in Cambodia and offers stunning bass relief and stone carvings. The temple is only small in size but is significant in providing a greater understanding of the Angkor era. On the way back to Siem Reap you cycle pretty countryside passing Banteay Samre, a miniature Angkor Wat, which is relatively unexplored and the impressive Angkor Complex where you stop to enjoy the stunning views

DAY 4 : SIEM REAP / ROLUOS TEMPLE / BENG MEALEA (B/L/-)
After breakfast in hotel you start cycling towards the Rolous group, the oldest temple complex dating back to the 8th and 9th century. After exploring the three main temples Lolei, Preah Ko and Bakong, you enjoy a picnic lunch in the countryside. You continue cycling to Beng Mealea Temple which is a hidden gem in the jungle and where you set up camp for the night. Dinner is under the stars with the most amazing backdrop of ancient temples.

DAY 5 : BENG MEALEA / PHNOM KULEN / SIEM REAP (B/L/-)
After breakfast at the campsite you explore Beng Mealea Temple, a huge complex covered by jungle and definitely off the visitor trail. We continue our ride to the foot of the Phnom Kulen Hills. It’s only a short ride to Kulen along a deserted road that leads through great local villages and rice paddy fields. From there you continue riding towards Siem Reap. The last 20km will lead you pass several temples and countryside landscapes. Tonight enjoy dinner at a local Khmer restaurant with traditional Apsara dance show.

DAY 6 : BUDDHIST MONASTERY EXPERIENCE (B/L/-)
This morning we head off to the famous Russian Markets an interesting place selling of all kinds of antiquities-real and imitation, betel- nut boxes, silk, small statues of Buddha, jewellery and musical instruments. After lunch, we drive to a local monastery where your guide explains the schedule of the next coming days as well as the do’s and dont’s that travellers have to respect during a visit the overnight stay in the monastery. This afternoon, our course focuses on Buddhist philosophy and monastic life. Overnight in the monastery.

Note : Monks have their last meal at 11:00am in the morning. No dinner is planned for the evening. We will however prepare snacks and fruits.

DAY 7 : LIFE IN BUDDHIST MONASTERY (B/L/-)
Up early to the sound of the drums (monks wake up at around 4:00am – so be prepared). Rise and join them at their prayers. After breakfast, we’re introduced to meditation, followed by a half day practice in the monastery. The course is followed by some free time to relax and lunch. In the afternoon, transfer back to our hotel in Siem Reap and free time at leisure. Overnight in Siem Reap.

DAY 8 : KAYAK TONLE SAP LAKE (B/L/-)
Your private vehicle picks you up from your hotel and takes you to the Ton Le Sap Lake. Today’s journey begins with a local boat trip to a floating village where your kayaking experience starts as you paddle through villages, gorgeous lake scenery and keep your eye out for the bird life. Your guide can explain local customs and how people live, trade and socialise on the lake. Lunch is included with your tour before heading back to your hotel for free time.

DAY 9 : SIEM REAP DEPARTURE (B/-/-)
Breakfast at the hotel and free time until your transfer to Siem Reap Airport for your onward flight
