TRAVEL NOTES
• For most of the year it is hot when exploring the temples. The guide will make regular stops where you can purchase water and snacks. Please keep hydrated and bring sunscreen and hats to protect yourself from the sun.
• The Apsara Authority which manages the park reserves the right to refuse entry to certain areas of the site for guests who wear clothing which is considered immodest. No smoking, drinking alcohol or touching the carvings is permitted in and around the temples.

Our tour starts with the visit to Pre Rup temple where we can climb up to the top to get a good view of th area. The temple itself is built entirely of brick and laterite and the best time so see its warm color is in the morning. We continue to visit Banteay Samre temple close by. This monument , with its well-preserved exceptional ornamentation, presents an iconography so complete and in such an excellent state of preservation. Then we proceed to Banteay Srei Temple, the highlight of this tour. The "Citadel of the Woman", was constructed during the reign of King Rajendravarman by one of his ministers, Yajnyavaraha, who served as tutor to the future king Jayavarman V. It was built on land given to him by the king that lies about 23 kilometers northeast of Angkor. The carvings and architectural details in this pink sandstone temple are some of the finest of Khmer art.

We will have lunch at a local restaurant situated inside the Angkor Park with typical Khmer cuisine. In the afternoon, we visit Mebon Temple that stands on a small island in the middle of the Eastern Baray. In the past, the temple was accessible only by boat because the baray used to be a source of water for agricultural irrigation. So you can imagine the original majesty of this temple in the middle of a large lake. The next place is Ta Som temple. Both outer entrance gopuras of Ta Som are good examples of well preserved towers depicting Avalokiteshvara (the bodhisattva of compassion). With its tower structure enveloped by a large Ficus tree, it’s easy to understand how nature and buildings can be hard to separate throughout Ankor Archaeological Park

The last monument of the tour is Preah Khan temple. Preah Khan is the name of the sacred sword, the safeguard of Cambodia, which is preserved in the palace of Phnom Penh, it seems that there is a connection between this precious arm and the name of the monument, a name which is not unique among the temple of the country. It is among the largest monuments.
