We leave Siem Reap at 8:00 AM and travel south/east through small rural villages and rice fields towards the great lake, depending on the time of year and the current water levels we go as far as we can by road where our boats will be waiting for you, we travel the rest of the way by boat down the Kompong Phluk river and into the main village, the village is home to approx 3000 predominately Khmer fishing people, where we will either sail on through the main street of the village (in the high water level) or walk along in the low water level season. Whichever way its a great opportunity to see how the rural fishing villages live and go about there daily tasks, there are a few schools, large bobha pergola and many stilted homes towering some 9 meters high. Its a lovely peaceful place to visit anytime of the year, from there we transfer into our small boats and row you through the flooded forest of Kompong Phluk, the name of kompong phluk means "harbour of the task". We also proceed onto the great lake proper and see the small floating village which moves in and out depending on the water level
Then, we continue the boat trip to Chong Khneas which is a large floating settlement. Nestled under the hill of Phnom Krom, this floating community changes location with the waters of the lake. During the wet season when the lake swells five times in size, the village is near Phnom Krom, but during the dry season, it moves as much as 4km away from the hill. Everything floats on water in this living fishing community. The majority of the population, which is composed for a great part of Vietnamese people, live in houseboats. Most of the time, you can recognize the Vietnamese habitation because of their bright colours. Boat will pass along the floating houses, school, sport hall, even pigs farm and stop at the Gecko Environment Centre which offers information about the ecology and the rich biodiversity of the lake area.
Around 2:00 PM, our shuttle will transfer you back to hotel
